What do you really need for baby's first few weeks and months of birth to keep him or her comfy and fashionable? Here's what we suggest by brand and size. These are high quality cotton, easy to clean and not over the top expensive. Run everything through the washer and dryer with a gentle detergent like Linen Wash to remove chemicals sprayed on fabrics during the manufacturing process. The gentle detergent will be much appreciated by your sensitive baby. Layette is designed to be comfy for baby and easy to put on and off since you will be changing them multiple times per day (unless you are fortunate to have a spit-up-free, leak-free baby).

Knit Layette
Sophie Dess or Florence Eisman are examples of great brands for knit layette. This layette will vary by season but it is nice to have a comfy, cotton knit layette outfit that is a bit dressier for special occasions. It's a great way for baby to dress up, stay comfortable and keep baby center stage.

Socks, Hats, Bibs
You will lose socks everywhere you go but they are a necessary part of wardrobe as baby becomes accustomed to air conditioners (your tummy was so nice and warm!). Socks also eliminate nosy strangers from providing unsolicited advice.

Swaddling Blankets
Showers are terrific for receiving beautiful, showcase blankets for outings. It is also important to purchase several thin cotton blankets for swaddling. The hospital staff will show you the proper way to swaddle once you give birth which truly helps baby feel warm, safe, secure causing them to sleep longer. That means the parents are able to sleep longer too!

Helpful Hint:
Practice swaddling your baby with hospital personnel prior to leaving for home. If you see little fingers emerging from the top of the blanket, they are swaddled incorrectly and soon will become loose.
